Town of URGENCH

Town of Urgench is situated in the north-west of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was founded on January 15, 1938. Its territory makes 29 thousand km2 and occupies 48% of the region territory. For October 1, 2008 the population accounts for 135,6 thousand people. Density is 4675,8 people per 1km2. Urgench borders on districts of Urgench and Khiva.

There are 35 makhallyas (a kind of local authority) in the town. In January-September 2008 natural increase in population made up 1399 people. During the time 2104 children were born, which is by 59 children more than in January-September 2007.
